Adopt a Hydrant

In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home or business? Or does it get buried under a snow pile? For many years, the town has encouraged residents and business owners to "adopt a fire hydrant" near their property and keep snow shoveled away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are visible and will greatly speed the response time in case of an emergency. Please don't let your neighborhood hydrant remain "under cover".

We Need Your Help

There are over 500 hydrants in town and we need your help to keep them clear! There is no need to notify the town about a hydrant you have adopted, as this is an informal volunteer program.

One more reminder

Make sure your house numbers and the numbers on your mailbox haven't been covered by snow. Having your address readily visible helps fire, police or ambulance crews find your home more quickly in an emergency.
